Daily Activities

Our day starts out around 6 am.  While the coffee is brewing the greyhounds and I head out to spend time relaxing in the family room or lounging on the deck in the backyard.  For greyhounds who are on a two feeding daily schedule they will find their way to breakfast at 8:30 am.  When the last grey is finished we all go out once more and spend time playing, lounging, pottying or just checking out the sights and smells.  Most greyhounds usually decide that with a full tummy a morning nap just fits right into their schedule.  For others who would like a little more playtime, the toy basket is always waiting for them.  Through out the day we make sure that all greyhounds are able to go out and take care of business.  When any greyhound goes outside, they always have supervision.  At no time are greyhounds left outside by themselves.  We are also very aware of the weather conditions and all outdoor activities during the hot periods are done in the morning and late afternoon.  For those greys that enjoy water, we also have wading pools for them in the warmer months.

Our greyhounds find dinner being served at 6:30 pm and once again when the last greyhound is finished, we all retreat to the backyard and enjoy a fun filled social gathering between the greyhounds and I.  For every greyhound, the evenings are different.  Some find themselves playing, others are back napping and then there are the couch snugglers who like to watch TV.  Which ever their need may be, all will find themselves very content.  Treat time is at 10 pm, right before bedtime.  When it is time to call it a day, your greyhound will find their sleeping quarters in our bedroom.  We do this so if they do need to get up in the night we are aware and can get up with them.  It also, for many, reminds them more of home.

From time to time we have been known to add a little spice to life with the greyhounds.  Greyhound birthday parties, complete with canine cakes, party hats and neck attire have found there way into our lives since adopting.  And yes, you may find you would get very odd looks from most people but on more than one occasion we have been know to turn our livingroom into a giant slumber party, complete with mattresses on the floor, snacks (canine & people) and stacks of movies for all the greys and us.  And now that we have such a large backyard, weather permitting, our family will be setting up the tents and camping out with the greys.  Never a dull moment in our home.  Life doesn't get any better than this!
